Intel introduces processor with 48 cores

The CPU is called "single-chip computer Cloud" thinkpad t400 battery. It consists of 24 interconnected dual-processors with a total of 1.3 billion transistors,. Intel has tested Windows and Linux successfully with the CPU.

Intel has introduced a fully programmable processor with 48 cores, which has 1.3 billion transistors. The CPU described by the manufacturer as "single-chip computer Cloud" (SCC). It is the successor of the 2007 incurred as a research project Polaris processor, which has 80 cores. Unlike its predecessor, the SCC also run standard software for Intel’s x86 chips thinkpad t500 battery.

The individual nuclei are according to the manufacturer’s performance of a simple atom processor. Together, they reached a very high performance but said Intel CTO Justin Rattner. The company hopes to develop this concept PCs, which – like people – can understand the world around them. In the short term it should help in the consolidation of data centers.

An SCC consists of 24 interconnected dual-core processors. It supports up to 64 GB of RAM. An important part of its design, according to Rattner is a so-called "high-speed mesh network", which enables communication between the 48 cores each other and with one of the four associated memory controller lenovo 3000 n100 battery. The power consumption of the CPU is Intel with 25-125 watts.

Presenting the 48-core processor Intel has demonstrated an SCC system, Microsoft’s Visual Studio and has performed other tasks in Windows. Also tests with Linux were successful.

The SCC is according to the company a joint development of the Intel Labs in India, Germany and the USA panasonic cga-s007 battery. Intel plans to distribute 100 SCC systems for research to partners in industry and science.
